Ex Gadget man to lead Brand SA into China

One-time World Wide Worx business development executive and Gadget contributor Ramon Thomas has been named Brand South Africa country manager for China.

Brand South Africa has appointed Ramon Thomas as country manager for its operations in the Peoples Republic of China.

Thomas, will be responsible for managing the reputation of the “nation brand” in China. He will also work with a range of stakeholders, including the South African Embassy, to position South Africa as a competitive nation brand.

Thoms’s career includes 15 years of global and cross-cultural experience in, among others, the United Kingdom, United Arab Emirates, China, and South Africa. He was responsible for business development at World Wide Worx during its early years, and a contributor to Gadget magazine.

Welcoming him to the Brand South Africa team, Brand South Africa CEO Dr Kingsley Makhubela said: “Brand South Africa is pleased to have Ramon on board. His global experience in a range of disciplines, in addition to his in market experience, makes him an asset to the Brand South Africa team. We look forward to his successful efforts in positioning South Africa as a competitive destination in China.”

Thomas said, “I am honoured to be able to use all the experience and skills I have acquired in the course of my career to position the South African Nation Brand positively in China. The discipline of nation branding is a complex one which requires a nuanced application of marketing, communication and business development tools. I look forward to the challenge ahead of me.”

Thomas has a background in sales, marketing and innovation, and holds a Masters of Business Administration from the Ningbo University.
