Water wonder

Your first impression of the Aquagraph 2000 will not be too significant. Yes, its black face and silver strap do draw some attention, but after that you’ll find your attention dwindling. Yet, once you’ve got the bulky solid mass in your hands, you will all of a sudden become a little more interested and keen to find out what makes this thing so special.

Lets start from the watch’s perimeter and work our way in. The first thing you will notice is that, as with most diving watches these days, the TAG sports a timing bezel (the rotating wheel around the face that makes clicking noises when you turn it). however, unlike other watches, this bezel isn’t the easiest to turn. The reason is that it uses TAG’s patented auto-lock mechanism that makes it impossible to accidentally turn the bezel once set.

Secondly, you will notice two rather large buttons, located above and below the crown adjuster. These two buttons work in conjunction with the stopwatch or timer – one button to stop and start the timer, the second to reset it. Talking about the crown adjuster, the TAG 2000’s is screw-in and comes complete with an indicator to warn the wearer if it’s not screwed in properly. This screw-in crown is far more robust and secure than standard click-ins and allows the diver to swim down to a depth of 500 meters.

Situated in the TAG’s face are three other dials, one for merely counting seconds, kind of like a third hand on an ordinary watch, one for counting the hours and the third for displaying the timed hours, only operating when the timer is engaged.

The TAG Aquagraph 2000 comes standard with a rubber strap, chrome bracelet, some additional links and the tools required for adding or removing links.

1. Is it ready to use?

Well, you’ll first have to adjust the time, make sure it fits your wrist snugly and charge it up for a couple of seconds before you can start giving the time of day to people, but once that’s done you’ll never have to worry about it again. From what we experienced, it never missed a beat.

2. Is it easy to use?

If you can tell the time you will have no problems at all – we promise. Using the stopwatch is also dead easy; its just a matter of working out which button performs which function. That should take you no longer than 30 seconds.

4. Does it deliver on its promise?

We couldn’t find anything wrong with the watch. It counted down the seconds like there was no tomorrow and the timer came in pretty handy every now and then. Everything the brochure said it could do, it did. However, one aspect we didn’t test was if it in fact is waterproof up to 500 meters. But seeing as the Swiss are somewhat perfectionist and TAG have been in the diving watch industry for the past twenty years, we do believe them.
