Nedbank app appears - only for Android
Nedbank has launched the Nedbank App Suite - but only to Android phone users.
The
release follows the testing phase that started with Nedbank staff on 25 June
and is the latest digital innovation to come from Nedbank. The Nedbank App
Suite can be downloaded from The Google Play Store.
“The
launch of the Nedbank App Suite is the latest in a list of digital innovations
building on from Approve-it, the best online security currently available
in South Africa,” says Mike Brown, Nedbank Chief Executive.
“We
are excited by the launch and firmly believe that the we have built best in
class security and architecture to create a ‘secure electronic highway’ that
enables us to do more than anytime, anywhere mobile banking,” adds Brown.
The
Nedbank App Suite includes a first to market online share trading offering,
corporate batch authorisations, Business Banking password reset capability and
other useful NedApps for mobile banking. Nedbank clients who have a primary
account with Nedbank have the additional benefit of carrying out balance
enquiries, payments and transfers. Similarly, clients who have stockbroking
accounts with BoE Stockbrokers or Nedbank Online Share Trading will be able to
view their portfolio and trade in local equities. All Nedbank App Suite users
have access to branch locators, forex calculators, application lead forms and
more.
The
initiative will not without its critics, however. Research from World Wide Worx
shows that Android smartphones have less than 10% penetration of the South African
smartphone market. BlackBerry and Nokia's Symbian operating system between them
have 88% of the smartphone market.
Nedbank
added in a statement: "Consumers using Android Tablets, iPhones or iPads,
BlackBerry handsets and feature phones won’t have to wait long to experience
the safety and convenience of the Nedbank App Suite with the complete roll-out
anticipated to take place before the end of the year. Consumers using the
Microsoft operating System will have access to the Nedbank App Suite in the first
quarter of next year."
Said
Brown, “The Nedbank App Suite is unique in that it will be available on smart
phones as well as a wide range of feature phones. It is our intention to
provide an easy to use app that is safe, convenient and available to as many
South Africans as possible. The staggered rollout across handsets will ensure
that we are able to provide clients with an exceptional digital experience
across a wide range of operating systems.
“In
addition to the launch of the Nedbank App Suite we have built an architecture
that enables quick product development and release with a number of innovative
products already in the pipeline.”
